Partnering to improve EHR education & trust in IT by enabling learning & efficiency
M Health Fairview (Fairview), an academic healthcare system, had multiple, poorly integrated learning management systems. They adopted uPerform as a centralized, just-in-time learning platform to enhance the learner experience. uPerform integrated with the Epic platform, simplifying access to learning resources and improving the user experience for providers, nurses, patient access personnel, and revenue cycle users. The content-creation team at Fairview received training and support from uPerform, including tutorials, hands-on training, and online resources. This partnership has enabled Fairview to utilize asynchronous eLearning with virtual classes supported by a user-friendly learning library to onboard all team members. They created the Learning Connections Dashboard (accessed by hitting the F1 key) for centralized support and learning resources, and it serves as a one-stop shop for resources, support chat, and efficiency sessions. The dashboard includes Fairview’s Learning Library, made in partnership with uPerform.
Virtual training platform enhances EHR education
To reduce the challenges caused by frequent upgrades and enhancements, Baylor Scott & White Health uses uPerform’s platform to keep their clinicians’ training content up to date, relevant, and accessible. Baylor Scott & White’s keys to success include standing up a content-creation and training team; deploying brief, direct content in various forms; and ensuring education is aligned with relevant clinical workflows, which allows clinicians to learn on the job. uPerform users rate ongoing EHR education 12 percentage points higher than nonusers; additionally, they report an average Net EHR Experience Score 12.9 points higher.
A transformative training experience through adaptive and role-based EHR education
Facing limited resources and network constraints—challenges only exacerbated by the organization’s rapid expansion and the onset of COVID-19—Aspirus Health’s Technology Educators (TEDS) team recognized the need for scalable education and partnered with uPerform to create and support a virtual education model. uPerform’s platform enabled Aspirus TEDS to create 575 tip sheets and simulations and improve access to and the breadth of training materials. A tight training timeline during the implementation of Beaker and Bugsy was alleviated by the creation of 11 workflow-specific training modules using uPerform, reducing the need for live training sessions for thousands of staff members. Survey analysis revealed increased preparedness from clinicians who engaged with the uPerform Learning Library. To enhance ongoing training, Aspirus focused on role-based training with an emphasis on the “why” behind actions in the EHR workflow, thus improving user satisfaction. Additionally, challenges in communicating upgrade information across units and locations were addressed with the development of a Learning Pathways site that was featured as a link on the Epic F1 dashboard, resulting in a threefold increase in user engagement and effectiveness during upgrades. The organization’s training model is dynamic and adaptable, highlighting their commitment to individual impact and continuous training improvement.

KLAS First Look Report – Disrupting traditional software training
“[uPerform’s] web service integrates with our EMR and allows us to push that content out based on end users’ role templates and the departments that they are logged in to in our EMR. They are seeing content that is curated specifically for their role and their department that they are logged in to. We are definitely looking for that reduction in production time. The big seller there is the integration with our EMR.” — Manager, May 2021.
